Former Lab Members
Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow
My research focuses on climate-fishery interactions in coastal ecosystems, and, in particular, climate stressors and fishery species found throughout California and western Latin America. Prior to beginning my postdoc here at UCSC, I completed my PhD in Marine Biology, with a specialization in Interdisciplinary Environmental Research, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. And, before that, I was an undergrad banana slug! Long-term, I hope to use my scientific training and body of work to help contribute to socially-just strategies for marine conservation and fisheries management.

Dr. Malakooti is now a CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellow.
For her PhD work, Dr. Malakooti explored the effects of global change on infectious disease and how disease transmission affected population dynamics of key taxa in kelp forests and their persistence along the northeast Pacific coast.
Former PhD student.
Dr. Bell is now the Research Director at the Sitka Sound Science Center.

Sarah is a former PhD candidate with the Kroeker Lab. Her research focused on community ecology and coastal sustainability questions, seagrass ecosystems distribution and phenology, and how those ecosystems are impacted by local industries such as aquaculture.
